After a few years of manufacturing boat covers in her free time, demand grew to the extent that she could no longer keep up. Consequently, she made the decision to leave her full-time position as a seamstress to focus on the business. Jenny’s daughter, Kathy, also developed an interest in the manufacturing of boat covers and followed in her mother’s footsteps. Over the years, Jenny passed down all her skills and experience to her daughter. The business eventually moved into its first workshop, located in the back garden of their home in Braunston. They operated from this workshop for many years, building a reputation of excellence throughout the canal network. Cliff Allcott, Jenny’s husband, also left his position as a foreman for BWB to join the family business.
After 24 years of dedicated work in building the business, Jenny and Cliff retired. Throughout this period, they imparted all their knowledge and expertise to their daughter, Kathy, who had accumulated over 18 years of experience. In 2002, Kathy took over the business, carrying on the family legacy with the same passion and commitment as her parents.
Fraser, Kathy’s husband, underwent training by Cliff Allcott to become a skilled fitter. Suzanne, Jenny and Cliff’s eldest daughter, was employed in the office to provide administrative support. Kathy’s business acumen led her to employ highly trained staff members, which helped the business grow and maintain its reputation for excellence. In 2017, Kallum, Kathy’s son, started working with his father to learn the skills of measuring and fitting in his spare time while attending school. At the age of 14, Kallum was already demonstrating a keen interest in the business. By 2021, he had learned the skills of measuring, fitting, and CAD design and became a full-time employee. Kallum has a vision of one day taking over the business and continuing the legacy started by his grandparents.
